How to Write an Online Dating Profile - Avoid Making These Mistakes

Remember to avoid these 10 mistakes with the photo that you choose for your profile, or you may be in for the long wait for a response!

1) Do not use a photo that does not look like you at all. Use something more recent. If you are thirty, do not use your photo taken at eighteen. Of course you may think that you have not aged much, but there is definitely a difference!

2) Make sure your face is shown clearly in the photo. If you are using holiday snap shots, avoid choosing those that are taken full-body as your face would be really small in the picture.

3) If you do not have the body that everybody envies, avoid photos that show you in a skimpy suit (for women) or avoid photos with your shirt off (for men).

4) Do not take your photo in front of someone's huge mansion, or someone's sports convertible. Of course, if you have these yourself, by all means.

5) Don't make a funny face or squint. People can't make out how you actually look.

6) If taken outdoors, do not take your photo with your back against the sunlight. It could make your photo very dark, and nobody can see your beautiful face.

7) Do not use a photo that is taken with someone else. People screening your profile might mistake you for the other person. If it is a guy in the photo, they may think he is your ex, even though he might be your brother. If your photo is taken with your baby niece, they may be mistaken that she is your kid!

8) Do not put photos that just show part of your face, even though you may do it intentionally because you are shy or you think it looks arty. This may invoke a sense of mystery in some people who would be curious to see you in real person, but some might think you have something to hide, like a mole or birthmark that you do not wish to show.

9) Do not show your tattoos and body piercing. It could be a form of art to you, but not everyone thinks the same way. You could possibly lose a new friend who skips your profile because of it.

10) Do not choose grumpy or grouchy photos. Or worse, if it looks like a mug shot, please find another one again. Give your widest smile and be natural when taking your profile photo. You will be exuding happiness that everyone can see.

A picture is often worth a thousand words. When you participate in online dating, the first impression you get of the person is the profile and their photo attached. Profiles with attractive photos often get many times the number of responses. Thus your chances of finding someone you can click with correspondingly gets higher! It is a worthwhile investment to make, even if you have to pay for someone professional to take a great photo of you!
