Online dating isn't for everyone. Some may find it contrived, lacking spontaneity or just downright creepy. But if you have some courage and some curiosity it can be a great way to meet new people, especially if your hectic lifestyle doesn't leave much time for socialising.
Here are the top seven writing tips to help maximise the response to your profile:
1. Don't rush it
Take your time, have a look at a few profiles that caught your attention, and do a few drafts. Consider exactly what qualities you're looking for and how best to describe yourself.
2. Show don't tell
Don't just say you have a good sense of humour (GSOH), write something funny.
3. Be creative
Take a risk and really cut loose. You want your profile to stand out, so don't be afraid to be different.
4. Tell them about yourself
People are really put off by a shopping list of your wants and desires. It's better to describe yourself so people can decide if you might be who they are looking for.
5. Heaven is in the details
Again, you want your profile to stand out. Don't just say "I enjoy movies"; that could be anyone. Say something specific about you, like: "Something About Mary is the funniest film I have ever seen".
6. Age is not the only thing...
But it's important to most people. It's OK to put your preferences in a range eg "looking to meet someone 18 to 24". Better still put your own age in.
7. Honesty is the best policy
In fact, it's the only policy. You'll save yourself and other people a lot of disappointment if you stick to the truth.
