As the recession takes a firm hold on how we live our everyday lives, more and more people are cutting out unnecessary spending and trying to save as much cash as possible. That's understandable, but where does it leave you when you want to carry on dating? After all, you can't put a hold on meeting new people until the financial turmoil finally comes to an end.

Luckily there are lots of ways that you can continue dating while spending a lot less money. For example, there are plenty of places you can visit together that don't charge any money at all. There's nothing more romantic than a stroll along a nice quiet riverbank for example, or through a country park together.

You can take this a step further if you both happen to live in different areas too. For example, you could pre-plan a stroll around your local area that will take in all the best spots. It's a great way of showing your date where you live and what you can do there. And rather than planning an expensive dinner somewhere to finish off, why not stop off at a nice relaxing coffee shop instead?

If you know a little bit about your date's likes and dislikes, you have a much better chance of planning a cheap date that will appeal to them. For example, if they love modern art, take them to an art exhibition. The very fact that you have paid attention enough to know what they would like to see will no doubt win you some brownie points!

A lot of people get stuck in thinking that a date has to be outside the house - but that just isn't true. There are plenty of things you can do at home if you know your date well enough to invite them back. For example, if it's a nice day you could plan a lunch date in a secluded part of your garden. Find out what your date's favourite foods are and prepare beforehand to treat them to a well thought out meal that is a lot cheaper than going out anywhere.

The main advantage to dating on the cheap is that it forces you to be more creative with your relationship. After all, how many of us have said yes to a date and gone straight for the restaurant and a film option? We all do it because it is easy, and it doesn't require much thought.

In the end, free dating can lead to some more interesting and enjoyable dates than you would have if you spent a lot of money. So why not save some cash and do everything you can to make that next date more fun?
