How to Avoid Talking About Your Problems During Your Date


Do you find it hard to avoid talking about personal problems when out to dinner with someone special? Do you want to know how to skirt around your own issues and just enjoy your night out? Are you afraid of ruining your next date by talking about the same problems? You were right to be concerned. Talking about emotional baggage and other personal issue can really turn an otherwise perfect dinner date to a lose-lose situation. That fancy dinner table is not the place to discuss problems, especially if you are only on your first or third date. Here are some of the things you can keep in mind so that the next time you go out, you can avoid talking about your problems during your date.

Consciously keep things light. Before you even go out the door, condition yourself and leave your emotional baggage behind you. Just think of all the fun that you will have on the night ahead. After all, there's no sense in worrying about your problems now. It's not like you can solve all your worries by talking to your date about them. That guy who just asked you out is NOT a therapist, so don't weight him down with your issues. That's what your girlfriends are for.

If your conversation goes to a topic that brings back memories of your problems, try to ask nicely if you could change the subject. This will prevent you from spewing out endless rants. Nip the problem in the bud and talk about something else entirely. If your date respects you, he will not mind changing gears.

Lastly, focus on your guy and on the moment. Enjoy the wine, the walk, and the conversation. Make it a habit to observe - really take in - your date. Once you see how gorgeous he looks in his suit, you probably won't be reminded of your issues anymore.
