Passing Time at a Bad Date

When you are setting up a rendezvous, you want to know somebody better. The only thing is there is no way to know if you'll like your date or not. It can happen your date will have a much better time then you do, and there is nothing wrong with this: when dating, there are more lukewarm than sizzling hot experiences.

Rendezvous has an inherent risk of having a disappointing experience with a person you don't want to meet again. You have two options if this happens: you can choose the easy way, excuse yourself and leave, or you can try to be nice and act like you are having fun.

If you decide to go all the way thorough, there are a few strategies that can help you survive. Even the most boring and unpleasant person can have a few interesting qualities that people don't notice, because usually everybody is focusing on the negative characteristics. If there is nothing better to do, you can spend some time trying to find three things you like about your date. You don't have to think big: you can find your partner's hands or laugh nice.

A bad rendezvous can be a really good opportunity for you to practice your listening skills. So forget about your next day schedule, don't daydream, just leave your preconceptions behind and be attentive. You can discover interesting things.

You can also shift your focus from the person to the surroundings: listen to music, enjoy the food or the sunshine. After all you may have a really nice time.

Don't blame anyone for having to spend an evening with someone you don't like. Your disappointment is understandable, but don' think about your date in negative terms. Two perfectly normal people can have a really lousy evening together, if the chemistry doesn't work.

If you decide to stay, you will have to be polite until the end. You can't lock yourself up in the toilet, or find an excuse to leave earlier. The general rule is to act like you would like to be treated in a similar situation. Be civil, smile, laugh if your date s saying a joke, and never roll your eyes. You are not allowed to sit dumb all evening: you must engage in the conversation. You also have to look in the eyes of your date.

And don't run away as soon as you finished your meal: continue conversation, ride your date home, accept a ride or share a taxi cab. You must do everything to ensure your date has a nice time. However, there is no need to encourage him/her: you don't want another evening together, don't you?
